Graduation should not be the end of your development

Graduating is a major achievement, but it also means entering an increasingly competitive job market.

Thousands of graduates are applying for similar roles with similar qualifications, similar experiences and similar ambitions.

The challenge is no longer simply obtaining your degree.

The challenge is giving employers a reason to remember you.

The Warwick Graduate Advantage Membership helps you continue developing the practical communication, influencing and negotiation skills that can make a difference during applications, assessment centres, interviews and the early stages of your career.

Imagine two graduates sitting in the same interview

One candidate says:

β€œI studied negotiation as part of my degree.”

The other says:

β€œSince graduating, I have continued practising negotiation with professionals. I receive feedback, observe different approaches and regularly reflect on how I can improve.”

Which graduate demonstrates the stronger commitment to professional development?

As a Warwick Graduate Advantage member, you will have real experiences to discuss rather than relying entirely on theory.

Not just something you studied.
Not just something you read.
Something you continue to practise.

Employers do not recruit qualifications alone

Your degree may help you meet the initial requirements for a role, but employers also want evidence that you can communicate clearly, work confidently with others and respond well under pressure.

They look for people who can:

  • Communicate clearly
  • Ask thoughtful questions
  • Listen properly
  • Influence decisions
  • Solve problems
  • Think commercially
  • Build professional relationships
  • Remain calm under pressure

These are practical skills.

They improve when you have the opportunity to use them, receive feedback and then try again.

Continue practising alongside professionals

The Warwick Negotiation Club is a practical development community for graduates and professionals who want to improve through regular practice.

You may negotiate with people working in areas such as:

  • Procurement
  • Sales and business development
  • Law and legal services
  • Engineering
  • Project management
  • Consultancy
  • Leadership and management

This gives you the opportunity to practise with experienced professionals, encounter different personalities and learn from people already working in the types of roles you may want to pursue.

How the Warwick Negotiation Club works

This is not a traditional course built around long lectures or passive learning.

It is a practical skills development club built around one simple principle:

Negotiation skills improve through practice.

During the meetings, you will take part in short, structured negotiation exercises and more detailed role plays.

You may negotiate, observe other members, provide feedback and reflect on what made a difference.

The purpose is not to get everything right.

The purpose is to practise, make adjustments and become more confident each time.

Build a LinkedIn profile that stands out

Many graduates have similar qualifications and have attended similar lectures.

Far fewer can demonstrate that they regularly practise negotiation with experienced professionals.

As a member, you can:

  • Add Warwick Negotiation Club Member to your LinkedIn profile
  • Share reflections about the skills you are developing
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to professional development
  • Build relationships with experienced professionals
  • Create practical examples that can be discussed during interviews

After six months of active participation, The Negotiation Club can also provide a personalised LinkedIn recommendation recognising your commitment, participation and development.

This gives future employers evidence that your development did not stop when you graduated.

Keep developing while other graduates are waiting

Searching for the right graduate opportunity can take time.

During that period, it is easy to focus entirely on applications and interviews while allowing your confidence and practical communication skills to stagnate.

The Warwick Graduate Advantage Membership helps you use that time productively.

Every meeting gives you:

  • Another opportunity to practise
  • Another piece of feedback
  • Another professional connection
  • Another experience to discuss with an employer

Instead of simply saying you are a confident communicator, you will be able to explain how you are actively developing that confidence.

Skills that support almost every career

The skills developed through negotiation practice extend far beyond formal commercial negotiations.

Communication Active Listening Questioning Confidence Problem Solving Commercial Awareness Relationship Building Influencing Stakeholder Management

These capabilities are valuable in virtually every profession.

Confidence comes from doing

Nobody becomes a confident communicator simply by reading a book or attending a single workshop.

You improve by practising, making mistakes, receiving feedback and trying again.

That is exactly what the Warwick Negotiation Club helps you to do.
