Version 1.0

Issued by: The Negotiation Club Ltd

Last updated: January 2026

1. Purpose of This Framework

This document defines how The Negotiation Club designs, delivers, measures, and certifies Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for its negotiation training programmes.

The framework ensures that all CPD hours awarded by The Negotiation Club are:

  • Legitimate

  • Transparent

  • Evidence-based

  • Skills-focused

  • Defensible to employers, professional bodies, and academic institutions

2. CPD Philosophy

The Negotiation Club adopts a practice-first CPD model.

We define professional development not as passive learning, but as the deliberate practice of skills, supported by observation, feedback, and reflection.

Our position is clear:

"Professional capability improves through practice, not exposure to theory alone."

All CPD delivered by The Negotiation Club is therefore designed around active participation, not passive consumption.

3. Definition of CPD (as applied by The Negotiation Club)

For the purposes of this framework:

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is defined as:

Structured learning activity that develops professional capability, judgement, and confidence through applied skills practice, reflection, and feedback.

4. CPD-Eligible Learning Activities

The following activities qualify as CPD under this framework:

  • Live negotiation practice exercises

  • Role-based negotiation simulations

  • Observation of live negotiations

  • Structured peer and instructor feedback

  • Skills-focused preparation activities

  • Facilitated reflection and review

  • Team negotiation exercises

  • Scenario-based problem solving

The following do not qualify on their own:

  • Watching pre-recorded videos without engagement

  • Reading materials without applied activity

  • Attendance without participation

5. Learning Design Principles

All CPD-certified courses delivered by The Negotiation Club adhere to the following principles:

5.1 Practice-Led

Each session prioritises skills application over theory.

5.2 Short, Focused Learning Cycles

Negotiations are practised in short time-boxed rounds (typically 4–10 minutes) to encourage repetition and learning agility.

5.3 Observation and Feedback

Participants observe and are observed, developing both self-awareness and evaluative judgement.

5.4 Progressive Complexity

Learning progresses from simple, single-variable negotiations to complex, multivariable and team-based scenarios.

5.5 Reflection

Each session includes structured reflection to convert experience into learning.

6. Learning Outcomes

CPD programmes are designed to develop measurable professional capabilities, including:

  • Clear communication under pressure

  • Active listening and questioning

  • Negotiation preparation and structuring

  • Managing disagreement and rejection

  • Confidence in professional dialogue

  • Commercial and relational judgement

  • Awareness of personal negotiation behaviour

7. CPD Hours Calculation

CPD hours are calculated on the basis of active learning time.

  • 1 CPD Hour = 1 hour of structured, active participation

  • Breaks and informal discussion are excluded

  • Observation counts where it is structured and purposeful

Example:

  • 90-minute live negotiation session

    1.5 CPD hours

8. Evidence of Learning

Evidence that CPD has taken place may include:

  • Attendance records

  • Participation in live exercises

  • Completion of negotiation practice rounds

  • Observation notes

  • Facilitator feedback

  • Peer review

  • Session summaries

Formal examinations are not required.

9. Certification

Participants who complete CPD-eligible activities receive a CPD Certificate of Participation, which includes:

  • Participant name

  • Programme title

  • Date(s) of completion

  • Total CPD hours awarded

  • Issuing organisation

  • Authorised signature

  • Optional certificate reference number

Certificates confirm participation and learning, not competency or qualification.

10. Continuous Improvement

The Negotiation Club continuously reviews and improves its CPD programmes through:

  • Participant feedback

  • Iterative session design

  • Refinement of practice exercises

  • Updated learning materials

11. Governance

This CPD framework is owned, maintained, and enforced by The Negotiation Club Ltd.

All CPD claims are made in good faith and supported by documented learning design and delivery records.
